Greg Ross – ‘The new WordAmigo system is a giant advance on any other vocab learning tool.
‘I used Duolingo for three years and have become increasingly frustrated as it insisted on my learning a bunch of words I was never going to use, and to add insult to injury, were sometimes words that weren’t even used in Spain. It became a complete waste of time.
‘The WordAmigo system comes from a group of Spanish locals and expats who have really got it right.
‘With WordAmigo, I get to choose the words I want to learn, which relate to my interests and to my Spanish neighbours and friends. I am on my fourth block of 25 words now.
The combination of being able to choose specialist words from subjects I am interested in, then getting the list as an audio file and a PDF, means I can really focus on learning. I listen to the audio repeatedly while walking, and then when I get home, I do the vocabulary assessment. Listening to the words, saying them, and identifying my mistakes has made my pronunciation much better.
Then, finally being able to do the quiz to check that I know all the words is a huge plus. This is much better than anything out there. This takes learning Spanish vocabulary to another level. Brilliant, Goodbye Duolingo!!
Ruby Melanie Elliott OBE- ‘I really like Word Amigo. It allows me to choose the vocabulary relevant to my life and learn it in a way suited to me. I’m semi-retired and live in a Spanish-speaking area, where I meet lots of Spanish-speaking people through the Sports and activities I do, so relevance is vital.
‘Having written lists to study, audio recordings to listen to on the go, pronunciation practice and quizzes allows me to choose my learning activity to fit with what I’m doing at any given time.
‘I can learn whilst driving, walking, working out at the gym or in a more structured traditional way at home. I can also use the quizzes and practice methods with my friends to make learning fun.
‘WordAmigo allows for study, self-testing and then pronunciation practice before I try out my progress with Spaniards. It eases my fear of “getting it wrong”.
‘No dictionary or other product gives me such versatility and the ability to personalise my learning like WordAmigo does. ‘
David Pauley – have recently been using WordAmigo, a new learning system from the JSS team, and I have found it to be such a helpful tool.
‘Should you want to ( or have to ) increase your Spanish vocabulary in specific subjects, WordAmigo gives you access to a vast range of topics covering just about everything from Gardening, Finance, Food, Cars, Health, etc.
‘From my first chosen subject, I made up a list of 25 words, which was emailed to me as a PDF along with an audio file to start learning from. Then you can test yourself using the quizzes to see how you are progressing .
Still, for me, the absolute icing on the cake is the listening/pronunciation feature.
You listen to how the word is said in Spanish, and then you repeat it. You get confirmation if you have said it correctly, and if not, you get feedback on how to improve. There is also a section with sentences under the heading “Language ” which I have found to be amazing as I am building up my vocabulary and improving my pronunciation at the same time. Such a great feature, as it gives you complete confidence knowing you are pronouncing the words correctly. I think It’s brilliant and has really improved my Spanish in such a short time .’
Rod Baverstock- Cannot rate WordAmigo highly enough. WordAmigo is perfect name for this new system, because it is like having a Spanish friend showing you the words and how to pronounce them.
I found that personalising the words I use / want to use, is an amazing leap forward in expanding my ( useful to me ) vocabulary .But the real “ cherry on the cake “ is the words can be pronounced so you learn how to say them properly ( as a local 🤗)
